Meen kuzhambu/ Fish Curry

Fish lovers have a thing or two for their fish kuzhambu recipe. They are just obsessed with their own recipe and would never allow their taste bud to try a new one!
There are a variety of fish curry recipes out there each passed down by their own families or so. Some use a few shallots, some swear by a large amount of the same, some would argue that there should be no ginger garlic paste in fish recipes and others just cannot resist adding it!! Many recipes add freshly grounded coconut paste too.. I sometimes add that too
Well, this one is the one I am obsessed with..
This one is a comfort food. Make a large batch of it and you could keep it for 2 to 3 days. The thing with fish curry is, it gets tastier as it gets older.
For this kuzhambu, I marinated washed fish pieces in a nice drizzle of gingely/sesame oil and turmeric. In a generous amount of gingely oil, saute a very few crushed shallots, then a couple of chopped tomatoes until mushy. Add in tamarind extract from a gooseberry sized tamarind. Add about a couple of tablespoons of coriander powder, a teaspoon of chilly powder, a pinch of turmeric powder, salt to taste and boil it until cooked. Add the marinated fish pieces one by one and simmer until cooked or oil separates from the gravy.
Serve with steamed rice.

Mushrooms to the rescue!

When I took the 30 day challenge of not eating packaged food, little did I know that I got to be really determined to keep it going.
Last night I was put to this very test!
Oh yeah, the husband came with the simple pack of lays potato to sink in the sofa just next to me and my daughter did her part by slurping a nice cup of Oreo flavoured ice cream.
So girls! I so wanted to have just a couple of chips from the sparkly bag but wasn’t I supposed to do that!?

Sautéed mushrooms and bell peppers

Determined to fix my snack, I armed myself with a pack of mushrooms and a knife to chop them off.
So there I was! Washed a handful of mushrooms, chopped them into fours. Sautéed them in cold pressed ground nut oil with crushed garlic. It stayed over the pan for a couple of minutes or so just until cooked yet crunchy. Added half of a green bell pepper, which were neatly cut into large cubes. Made them to stay for another minute in high flame continuously sautéing it. Topped it with salt and pepper and plated them over a white ceramic salad bowl with a fork to poke into!
There I had my quick fix and aren’t they damn healthy.
So, I had my collars up with the most delicious and coolest homemade snack ever! Something to envy upon.

WHOLE WHEAT CRESPELLE WITH APPLE-CINNAMON FILLING

That definitely sounds like Italian? isn't it? I was actually hunting for an authentic Italian breakfast recipes and I bumped into this recipe . Now it has become one of our most sought after breakfast. Well.. Crespelle is just the Italian name (or should I say 'fancy name') for pancakes. I loved the recipe as it had whole wheat flour instead of plain flour. The filling is just apple, sugar and ground cinnamon cooked together. I once tried it with pear also and it was a bit tart as it was supposed to be but it was still a hit.

Nope, This is not about photography nor is it a recipe

I agree that I don't take jaw dropping photographs.. I'm not here to blame the camera nor I' m here to speak about the plus and minus of owning a DSLR. I'm just here to share a single snap that I think is 'just a good photograph'. Having said that, this is not really even just one of the 'fair looking' photographs in this blogging world, my heart is still stuck with its beauty. Is it the hearty 'vazhaithandu poriyal' or the nostalgic 'Kathirikkai ennai kuzhambu' or is it just the tiffin box.. I have no idea.. Just felt like sharing this pic and here I'm.. with an ok ok kind of pic that was not taken with a DSLR (I don't own one!) or a point and shoot camera. This pic was taken with my camera phone..
