GANESH CHATURTHI SPECIAL - KOZHUKATTAI PAYASAM
Ganesh chaturthi is celebrated on the fourth day after new moon in the month of aavani (a tamil month - mid August to mid September). It is falling on 29th of August this time. It is celebrated throughout India and is a very important Hindu festival. Lord Ganesh statues made of clay are bought to house, decorated and worshiped for days and are floated in water bodies after a few days, usually 5th day or 7th day.
In Tamil nadu, people even make pallu (meaning teeth) kozhukattai when a baby's teeth has just started to grow. They are stuffed with minute coconut bits. The belief is that the teeth would grow as beautiful as these dumplings/ kozhukattai. Would soon post these recipes.
MOTICHOOR LADDU
Though i don't have a sweet tooth, these gorgeous sweets are my favourite. In spite of being originated in the northern India, it has traveled all the way down to south to occupy a special place in many's hearts. I just love the glimpse of them locked up in glass shelves in sweet stores so unassuming!!
BRINJAL / KATHIRIKAI ENNAI KUZHAMBU
This is a renowned recipe of tamil nadu and is one of the favourites among the southies. If you have not tried this then just give it a try. It is usually paired with veg koottu or veg poriyal . Even plain boiled eggs will make it complete. The gravy is blended with rice and is had for lunch.
CHICKEN PEPPER CURRY
Indian curries are usually a house of flavors with a lot of spices and herbs. This curry is no exception. The authenticity of this chicken curry lies in the roasting and grinding part. Not only that, the spices added in for seasoning makes the whole dish aromatic...The dish is supposed to be had with steamed rice.. but it tastes equally good with rotis (indian flat bread), idlis (indian savory rice cake) and dosas (indian pancakes) too..
