FRENCH TOAST/ BREAD OMELETTE

French toast is a simple bread toast made by soaking the bread in beaten egg, milk, nutmeg powder, cinnamon powder and sugar mixture and then toasted over pan with butter.

Its quite a simple dish that can make a great snack or even a good breakfast. So, if you are already late for your office and are left with no idea as what to do or just very hungry to even think about cooking, simply make these yummy french toast.

Preparation time - 5 minutes
Cooking time - 5 minutes
Yields - 2 servings, 4 toasts.

INGREDIENTS
Bread - 4 nos
Egg - 2 nos
Milk - 1 tablespoon
Cinnamon (dalchini/ pattai) powder - a pinch
Nutmeg (jayphal/ jaathikkaai) powder - a pinch
Salt - a pinch
Butter - as required. (for pan frying)
Demarara Sugar or regular sugar or jaggery powder - 1&1/2 teaspoon
Castor sugar (powdered sugar) - 1 teaspoon

METHOD
1. Beat together the eggs, milk, cinnamon powder, nutmeg powder,salt and sugar in a wide and shallow vessel (this would make it easier to dip the bread).
2. Heat a pan and melt about half a spoon of butter.
3. If the bread is soft n tender, then soak it in the egg mixture just before you put them over the pan but if they are hard you can soak it a bit earlier. Carefully toss it over the pan without breaking the bread. Wait till the bottom portion is cooked.
4. Flip and cook the other side till brown. Add butter if needed.
5. When it is crisp, transfer it to a plate and serve hot with castor sugar sprinkled over.

TIPS
1. The addition of the spices are just optional. It can be prepared with just plain egg and sugar.
2. If the breads are old n dry, they would soak in more egg mixture making them tastier.
